BRP Bhaskar was a distinguished journalist, renowned for his unwavering commitment to truth and justice over a career spanning more than seven decades, as noted by writer MN Karassery. Speaking at the BRP Bhaskar Remembrance meeting, organized online by the Vakkom Moulavi Memorial Research Centre (VMMRC), Karassery emphasized that Bhaskar was more than just a journalist; he was a consummate philanthropist and democrat who courageously exposed societal and governmental misconduct. In his professional life, Bhaskar prioritized character over career.

Sahitya Akademi President K. Satchidanandan described Bhaskar as a beacon of integrity during the tumultuous times of contemporary politics, highlighting his fearlessness, honesty, and compassion. Senior journalist MG Radhakrishnan remarked that Kerala had lost an irreplaceable figure with Bhaskar’s passing, highlighting his significant contributions throughout his 70-year media career. Former JNU Professor AK Ramakrishnan praised Bhaskar as a unique personality who played a significant role in human rights struggles in Kerala, maintaining a dynamic public sphere.

Dilli Dally editor, S. Gopalakrishnan, remarked that BRP Bhaskar’s relevance in Kerala society came from his free-thinking spirit, unchained by any ideology. In contrast, many contemporary intellectuals in Kerala are seen as prisoners of their chosen schools of thought or groups, leading to a self-imposed confinement. These intellectuals often mistake the comfort of this confinement for a conscious choice. BRP Bhaskar, however, dedicated his unrestrained life to serving Kerala society, embodying a civic character that is crucial for the state today. Gopalakrishnan urged the Malayali community to draw courage from Bhaskar’s legacy and carry it forward.

A. Suhair, Chairman of the Vakkom Moulavi Foundation Trust, highlighted BRP Bhaskar’s humility and erudition. He noted that Bhaskar often reminded others of the symbiotic relationship between Vakkom Moulavi, the owner of Swadeshabhimani, and its editor, Ramakrishna Pillai—an uncommon dynamic in the media industry. Suhair also emphasized Bhaskar’s strong ties with the VMFT, his sincere participation in its functions, and his dedication to its activities.

The commemoration saw the participation of several eminent personalities, including writer Sunitha Balakrishnan, former Kerala Council for Historical Research director PJ Cherian, Delhi Jamia Millia Professor Mathew Joseph, Sameer Munir, Joseph Antony, Oilve Books Manager Muhsin, and writer Khadija Mumtaz. The event was presided over by K.M. Seethi.

BRP Bhaskar was also serving as a patron of the Vakkom Moulavi Memorial Research Centre.
