MUKUL KESEVAN is well known writer, commentator and historian, who currently teaches in the Department of History and Culture at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. After his higher studies at the University of Delhi and University of Cambridge, Mukul began his academic career at Jamia Millia Islamia. He also taught at St. Stephenโs College, New Delhi, served as Writer-in-Residence, University of Kent in Canterbury under the Charles Wallace Fellowship, and Research Fellow, Nehru Memorial Museum & Library, New Delhi. Mukulโs works include internationally acclaimed Looking Through Glass (Chatto & Windus), Secular Common Sense (Penguin India), Men in White (Penguin), The Ugliness of the Indian Male and Other Propositions (Black Kite), Homeless on Google Earth (The Orient Blackswan), Civil Lines (HarperCollins) etc. Mukulโs columns have appeared in The Telegraph, Cricinfo, Outlook Magazine, Mint, The Times of India, The Hindu, The Guardian, BookForum, The Times Literary Supplement, Wisden Cricket Asia, The Wisden Cricketer etc.
SHAJAHAN MADAMPAT is a writer and cultural critic, writing in Malayalam, English and in Arabic. His writings include God is neither a Khomeini nor a Mohan Bhagawat and numerous essays and articles published in leading journals and newspapers such as Economic and Political Weekly, The Hindu, Huffington Post, Outlook, Gulf News, Khaleej Times, Bahrain Tribune, Biblio, Mainstream, etc. Shajahan, an alumnus of Jawaharlal Nehru University, currently lives and works in Abu Dhabi.
As part of the Praveshanolsavam, the Vakkom Moulavi Memorial and Research Centre organised (VMMRC) an award ceremony to honour the talented students of Vakkom Government Vocational Higher Secondary School who achieved outstanding success in various subjects during the 2025โ26 academic year. Attingal DySP Mr. G. Santhosh attended as the chief guest. The ceremony was presided over by the School PTA President, Mr. Ashokan, and speeches were delivered by Principal Mr. Shaji M.V. and District Panchayat Member Ms. Sheela, among others. The VMMRC functionaries distributed meritorious awards to three bright students who achieved academic excellence: Anamika Sabu (Higher Secondary Commerce topper) was awarded the S. Muhammad Abda Memorial Award. Nileena A. (Higher Secondary Science topper) received the Dr. M. Sabir Memorial Award. Nived Naiju (Vocational Higher Secondary topper) was presented with the Swadeshabhimani Memorial Award.
Each award, given in recognition of the studentโ high success, consisted of a cash prize and a memento. Felicitations and wishes were offered by, Ms. Geethu Suresh (Block Panchayat President), Mr. Vakkom Sajeev (Vakkom Grama Panchayat President), Ms. Newton Akbar (Grama Panchayat Vice President), Mr. Manu (Panchayat Member), Mr. Akbar A. (SMC Chairman), Ms. Shaila (MPTA President), Mr. Shabeer (CPTA Vice President), Ms. Shameem (VHSE Principal), Ms. Beena (UPSA Senior Teacher).
Mr. Maneesh spoke representing ‘Nanma’โthe schoolโs 1988 SSLC batch alumni groupโalongside Ms. Sheeba A. Nair (Higher Secondary Staff Secretary).
VMMRC Joint Secretary Mr. Abdul Nahas, Ms. O. Saleema, and Ms. Shaheen Nadeem were present on the occasion.
The Vakkom Moulavi Memorial Research Centre (VMMRC) has distributed books and essential study materials to 20 selected students within the Vakkom Grama Panchayat for the upcoming 2026-27 academic year on Monday, 25 May 2026.
The distribution ceremony was held on the campus of the Government New Lower Primary School (New LPS), Writeravila. The initiative aims to support young learners from the local community as they prepare to begin their new school term. Among those attended the event include Mr. Akbar Shah (School Headmaster), Mr. Fousy, Mr. Sabeer (School Managing Committee Member), and representatives from the Vakkom Moulavi Memorial Research Centre: Mr. Nahas Abdul Haq, Mrs. Shaheen Nadeem, Mrs. O. Saleema, Mr. O. A. Halim, and Mrs. Shabeera Mini.
This was part of local community outreach programmes undertaken by VMMRC to ensure children from all socio-economic backgrounds have access to basic schooling supplies before the academic year begins in June.
Senior journalist and writer G. Priyadarshanan has been selected for the 2025 Vakkom Moulavi Memorial Award. The award, instituted by the Vakkom Moulavi Memorial and Research Centre (VMMRC), Vakkom, is presented in recognition of Priyadarshananโs outstanding contributions to press freedom and his distinguished service to the media.
A former teacher, Priyadarshanan served for a long period at Malayala Manorama. He was the Vice President of the S.N.D.P. Yogam from 1992 to 1995 and later served as the Executive Editor of the magazine Yoganadam. His popular series Pazhamayilninnu is published in Bhashaposhini. He is also the author of several notable works, including Sree Narayana Guru Suvarna Rekhakal, Kumaran Asante Editorialukal, Asante Ariyappedatha Mughangal, Praja Sabha Prasangangal, Manmaranja Masika Patanangal, Bhashaposhini Sabha: Charitra Patanangal, and Kerala Sahitya Navothanam.
Priyadarshanan had earlier received the Kerala Sahitya Akademiโs Comprehensive Contribution Award and the Kerala Press Academyโs Senior Journalist Award.
The Vakkom Moulavi Memorial Award will be presented at a function to be held in December.
As part of the Vakkom Moulavi Memorial Day observance, a lecture and discussion will be held under the auspices of VMMRC on Friday, October 31. The memorial lecture, on the topic โWhat is Renaissance?โ, will be delivered by prominent writer and thinker Prof. M. N. Karassery at 4:30 pm at the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club (TNG Fourth Estate Hall).
Senior journalist Shri M. G. Radhakrishnan will chair the session.
