Vakkom Moulavi Award and Commemoration Lecture

Sri R. Rajagopal, senior journalist and Editor-at-Large, The Telegraph, is selected for Vakkom Moulavi Memorial Award instituted by Vakkom Moulavi Memorial and Research Centre (VMMRC) at Vakkom, Thiruvananthapuram. The award is being bestowed in recognition of his distinct contributions to the field of journalism and the tireless efforts in championing the cause of press freedom. The award will be given at a function organised by VMMRC in commemoration of the 150th birthyear of Vakkom Moulavi in Thiruvananthapuram. The Commemoration programme will be inaugurated by Sri KN Balagopal, Minister for Finance. The Commemoration Lecture on the theme, “Challenges to Press Freedom in India” will be delivered by Sri. Sashikumar, senior journalist and Chairman of Asian College of Journalism, Chennai. Noted literacy critic Dr P.K. Rajasekharan will chair the session to be held at the TNG Fourth Estate Hall, Press Club at 5 PM on 31 October.
